"You have missed the point that a 9 year old girl will live the rest of her life with the image of a man she shot through the head. No matter what your argument, a NINE YEAR OLD has no damn business being taught to shoot an UZI. People in this country need to grow up and think about someone other than themselves and the "right" to own a firearm~they have ruined that girl. Every one of you bitching about your Second Amendment Rights needs to see a body with a bullet to the head at the age of NINE, no less. Jesus."

(Not my comment, but I liked it and wanted to share. She was arguing with a gun nut.)

  1. Maybe. Every individual responds to traumatic events differently. But I'm not a fan of assuming that just because someone is 9 they're automatically unable to handle it.

Speculating how another person will be harmed by something on the basis of calendar age I think is a fundamentally mistaken approach.

  2. The parents now have to lie in the bed they've made. That's a pretty hefty toll as well. I would be devastated. I get upset when I curse in front of my kids. I can't even fathom that kind of anguish.

As a side note, I've been shooting small caliber rifles and shotguns since I was 8 years old. Never, not once, was I ever given a handgun. Wasn't even an option. And I come from a gun nut/redneck family on both sides. An Uzi? Inconceivable.

A terrible situation that I hope no other parent ever has to go through.
