The creator of the format won an award last night, and took his time in the spotlight to stop and say "it's pronounced jif, by the way."
It's pronounced "Jif". Has always been pronounced "Jif" and should always be pronounced "Jif". The GIF (Graphics Interchange Format), pronounced "JIF", was designed by CompuServe and the official specification released in June of 1987.
