Writing screenplays is fun and easy. You can do it to!
Shot opens on UPN OFFICES. CAPTION indicates location and DATE — it is January 15th, 2003. Camera pans into FOLLOWING SHOT on a doughy man, dressed in rumpled clothing, with messy reddish brown hair as he walks up to the door of an executive office and knocks.
LESLIE (O.S.)
Come in.
JOSS (entering)
Hey, Leslie.
LESLIE
Hey, Joss. What’s up?
They shake hands and JOSS sits in one of the chairs across from LESLIE.
JOSS
Well, here’s the thing. I think I can get Sarah to sign up for one more season with Buffy.
LESLIE
JOSS, that’s great news!
JOSS
Yeah. Listen, there’s sort of a catch.
[beat]
LESLIE
A catch?
JOSS
Yeah. Remember the promise you made to me about Angel when we moved from the WB?
LESLIE
Yeah. The offer stands. Why?
JOSS
Well, I want the same deal for Firefly. Next season. Complete control. In exchange for Sarah’s signature.
LESLIE
Umm. Okay…
JOSS
I want it on Wednesdays, with Enterprise leading into it so we can get that lead-in demographic while simultaneously displaying our complete superiority.
LESLIE (hesitant)
Jeez, Joss. I’m not sure if those guys will —
JOSS (cutting in)
As an added bonus I’ll let you continue to pretend that you have a network without me.
[beat]
LESLIE
Really?
JOSS
Promise.
LESLIE
Aww hell, you should have led off with that, buddy! Let’s get our contracts team on this!
LESLIE picks up phone in an excited rush.
JOSS (templing his fingers)
Excellent.
FADE to black.
I like it. I like it a lot.
*collapsing in helpless puddle of laughter* Oh, that’s rich. Someone forward this to Mr. Whedon immediately!
*more laughter*
