I thought you\u2019d be home and asleep by now. How was the trip?\u201d<br \/>\nThere was a short pause, the strange hiccuped silence of an interrupted cell connection. \u201cA few things came up; I\u2019m still out on the road, actually.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cOh cripes, really?\u201d The bed frame creaked slightly at movement on the other side from Calliope. She half-glanced that direction and started to pull herself out of bed. \u201cWhen&#8230; hang on, I\u2019m switching phones.\u201d She padded to opposite side of the room, found a cordless handset and turned it on as she hung the first phone up. \u201cWhen do you think you\u2019re going to get back?\u201d As she spoke she headed for the door to the bedroom, grabbing a robe on the way.<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019m&#8230; I\u2019m not really sure. Everything\u2019s pretty complicated.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cComplicated how?\u201d Yawning and still half-asleep, Calliope shuffled into the kitchen and pulled open the refrigerator door. \u201c<i>Espain pees.<\/i>\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cCan\u2019t. It\u2019s too late to get into any of it, anyway. You going to be all right?\u201d<br \/>\nShe shrugged, still staring blankly into the refrigerator, \u201cI\u2019ll be fine; I\u2019m in my own house, not bored out of my mind and crank-calling my friends at two a.m.\u201d<br \/>\nShe should hear him smile just a bit on the other end of the line. \u201cYou\u2019re cranky. You should take a shower and wake up.\u201d<br \/>\nShe shook her head in mock denial, pushing hair out of her face. \u201cSee, this\u2019s the main confusion in the conversation. I don\u2019t want to wake up. I wasn\u2019t actually laying in bed thinking \u2018oh, I wish someone would call and give me a reason to get out of this nice warm bed, because I\u2019m so bored\u2019. I wasn\u2019t thinking that or anything else. I wasn\u2019t bored. I was asleep. It was good and I was enjoying it. I\u2019d like to get back to it sometime tonight if possible.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cSo&#8230;\u201d she could hear the smile broaden in his voice. \u201cNo shower?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There&#8217;s another snippet at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.average-bear.com\/wid\/#1859\">WiD<\/a>.
