{"id":3557,"date":"2012-08-21T09:04:03","date_gmt":"2012-08-21T16:04:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/doycetesterman.com\/?p=3557"},"modified":"2012-08-21T21:55:31","modified_gmt":"2012-08-22T04:55:31","slug":"recent-hidden-things-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/doycetesterman.com\/index.php\/2012\/08\/recent-hidden-things-reviews\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent Hidden Things Reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Hidden Things<\/em><\/strong> is out today!\u00a0Here are the latest reviews (that I know of &#8212; if you spot one I missed, let me know).\u00a0Let&#8217;s see what people are saying&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kirkus Reviews<\/strong>, notorious purveyors of the cutting one-liner, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/book-reviews\/doyce-testerman\/hidden-things\/\" target=\"_blank\">gave the book a pretty terrific review<\/a>, calling it &#8220;agreeably creepy&#8221; (which makes me smile) and Calliope a &#8220;clever, determined, dauntless protagonist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though not exactly a review, the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/reviews.libraryjournal.com\/2012\/08\/books\/graphic-novels\/hungry-for-sf-genre-crossovers-retain-fans-and-attract-new-readers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Library Journal<\/a><\/strong> gave <em>Hidden Things<\/em> a great shout-out in their &#8220;Hungry for SF&#8221; Genre Spotlight.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Reminiscent of Neil Gaiman\u2019s dark fantasies and the early books of Stephen King, Doyce Testerman\u2019s fantasy debut Hidden Things (Harper Voyager, Aug.) follows a young woman as she embarks on a surreal cross-country road trip after receiving a phone call from her dead business partner and former lover. This exploration into the supernatural places that lie hidden in the American heartland was a pick of \u201cBooks for Dudes\u201d columnist Douglas Lord at the Fourth Annual Librarian Shout &amp; Share program at June\u2019s BookExpo America conference.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The Original Edi<\/strong> won an ARC of the book and <a href=\"http:\/\/theoriginaledi.blogspot.com\/2012\/08\/hidden-things-my-thoughts.html\" target=\"_blank\">wrote about it<\/a>. Later, she even added a second post to <a href=\"http:\/\/theoriginaledi.blogspot.com\/2012\/08\/so-about-hidden-things.html\" target=\"_blank\">show how much cross-referencing and research she&#8217;d put into her read-through<\/a>. Edi wins the prize for &#8220;someone I&#8217;d like to add to my &#8216;reads it before it goes to print&#8217; list.&#8221; What an eye for detail!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mybookishways.com\/2012\/08\/hidden-things-by-doyce-testerman.html\" target=\"_blank\">My Bookish Ways<\/a><\/strong> (really gorgeous website, by the way) put up a very touching review of the ARC. The reviewer says lots of nice things, none of which I&#8217;m (quite) shameless enough to repeat verbatim, but that doesn&#8217;t mean you shouldn&#8217;t go and read it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/librarycrystal.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/20\/hidden-things-by-doyce-testerman\/\" target=\"_blank\">Library Crystal has a review up<\/a><\/strong> that (favorably!) compares Hidden Things to some of my favorite books.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, if you just can&#8217;t get enough of these reviews (or want to write one of your own), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/13623939-hidden-things\" target=\"_blank\">Goodreads provides<\/a>, with reviews ranging from five-stars down to no-stars-did-not-finish.
