{"id":12254,"date":"2014-12-14T14:00:29","date_gmt":"2014-12-14T21:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/doycetesterman.com\/index.php\/2014\/12\/im-going-to-get-this-out-of-the-way-before-wednesday-night\/"},"modified":"2017-01-26T22:19:51","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T05:19:51","slug":"im-going-to-get-this-out-of-the-way-before-wednesday-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/doycetesterman.com\/index.php\/2014\/12\/im-going-to-get-this-out-of-the-way-before-wednesday-night\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m going to get this out of the way before Wednesday night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I liked <b>The Battle of Five Armies<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>No, it wasn&#039;t perfect, but even imperfect, I believe it&#039;s a better retelling than the original book (as <a href=\"http:\/\/doycetesterman.com\/index.php\/2013\/12\/the-hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-is-better-than-the-book-its-based-on\/\">I&#8217;ve said before<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And let&#039;s be honest: I don&#039;t <i>want<\/i> perfection in creative stuff &#8211; I want <i>creative stuff<\/i> &#8211; I want <i>invention<\/i> and <i>experimentation<\/i> and the unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#039;t want <i>The Hobbit<\/i> copy-pasted onto a movie screen and, (thankfully) that&#039;s certainly not what Peter Jackson gave us.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He gave us love where Tolkien never thought to invest it.<\/li>\n<li>He gave Legolas a reason to defy his father and ride to Rivendell in fifty years.<\/li>\n<li>He gave the Arkenstone more meaning and more merit.<\/li>\n<li>He gave Thorin&#039;s line more of the tragic doom that seems to haunt all dwarves, satisfying the expectations set up by the oh-so-dwarvish ending of <i>Desolation of Smaug<\/i> (<a href=\"http:\/\/doycetesterman.com\/index.php\/2013\/12\/one-more-hobbitdesolation-post-closure\/\">something else I talked about already, at length<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am happy with the movie for all those reasons and a hundred more that I can&#039;t list, because I haven&#039;t seen it yet, of course.<\/p>\n<p>The things I&#039;ve mentioned, I <i>trust<\/i> will be there.<\/p>\n<p>Not <i>hope<\/i>, the way I hope the next Star Wars movie will be good.<\/p>\n<p>Trust. Belief.<\/p>\n<p>Because Jackson has absolutely earned it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I liked The Battle of Five Armies.
