Thanks, Doyce! Yes, I can imagine the Cliff-notes version {you're right - that's exactly the idea} might sell a lot more.

I read a lot of book reviews, and I can imagine I might pay 10 or 15 cents or so per review to read a set of book reviews saving me the trouble of even reading Cliff-notes-type summaries...

Hi Mark.

Sorry, you're speaking about the proposed 5k word esummary?

For a nonfiction work... umm... yeah. I could see that. Sort of "pay full price, or here's a cliff notes version for 2 bucks".

I could see a viable market for that. hell, the summary might end up selling more copies of the full book, honestly.

Ebooks are the way to go, publishers should be weary of trying to force customer choice after all theres nothing to stop authors old and new from by passing the publisher completely and selling the eBook from their own web site at a reasonable price, which I suspect will be the case in the near future.

Jamie, Doyce, and all you other e-book-lovers, how would this deal strike you as customers?

My imprint brings out non-fiction book{collection of popular articles about the economic crisis} and I offer you one of the two following deals :

a) 5,000-word e-summary only for 2 Swiss Francs

b) 50,000-word paperback for 16 Swiss Franc with the 5,000-word e-summary thrown in for free

Would this arouse your ire?

I completely agree. I'm a total ebook girl. I hate hard copies. They take up space, I have to go to the store to get them, and I just want the book RIGHT when I want it.

I also like reading on a reader better. I can put my iPhone in a baggie and read in the tub. LOVE this.

Now, I ALWAYS go to amazon and the Sony site first. EVERY TIME. I will always buy the book in e-version if it's available. ALWAYS.

But, have I ever downloaded a pirated copy because I couldn't find it on an ereader? Well, let's just say that the answer isn't no. :)
